This article kind of emphasizes the wrong problems.
While it's annoying to walk through TSA sometimes, the big problem with airport security is the people. They take like 30 minutes to get through security because they're just too stupid to have their shoes/belt off, laptop out of the bag in a separate bin, and crap out of their pockets. When done correctly, this process should take a maximum of 2 minutes from the time walk through the metal detector to the time you are walking to the appropriate terminal.
Yes it would be ideal to have a more efficient way of boarding the plane, but I don't see how it could be improved too much when all of the people in the last seating group are standing in the way of the gate for the people with higher priority seating, and constantly having to waste the time of everyone when the person taking your ticket has to tell them that THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE BOARDING YET WAIT UNTIL YOUR GROUP IS CALLED. The plane won't leave without you, your group will be called. I promise. Just stay seated and out of the way. The other big delay is on the runway waiting for clearance to take off.
It's also very unrealistic to say that the sole reason more flights are not scheduled is that this process takes as long as it does. The reality is that with fuel prices as they are and therefore the cost per flight as it is, it is in the airlines' best interest to have fewer flights so they can keep their prices and demand high with a smaller supply of flights.
Other Annoyances:
- People that think the moving walkway is a ride, I have news for you: it's not. GET OUT OF MY WAY KTHX.
- People that suddenly STOP when you are walking behind them in the middle of a busy walking area. Don't do that.
- People that
... try to bring a lot of crap in their carryon that either won't fit or will take an unfair share of the overhead bins... That makes it really hard to complete boarding when everyone has to search for somewhere else to stow their fair amount of carry-on. Learn to pack light.
- People that get up as soon as the plane has reached the gate but well before the door is opened. Half of the delay of boarding the plane is getting the current passengers off of it. Unless you're in business class, ff you idiots cause a traffic jam every time, it's not going to make that go any faster. Grab your carry-on and sit your ass back down until the people in front of you have already started walking.
Other tips: Don't want people rummaging through your luggage? Easy: don't check any; especially for business travel. You can pack for nearly a week and a half with carryon alone, plus bring a computer and some books. This also means you can do some things like get on standby for earlier/later flights. It's totally worth it if possible. Print your boarding pass online, sometimes you'll even get in a better seating group if you check in early. There is no reason you should not be able to arrive at an airport 35 minutes before your flight and make it on time, if it takes you even that long, you're wasting everyones time.
I swear, there should be a certification required for being allowed to travel.
The TSA is barely if at all a problem.
