I've been having problems with comment spam on my log lately.. nothing you guys would've noticed though because I moderate everything that goes through.

I kept getting tons of poker, medication and all sorts of other spam.. really annoying shit. It got to the point where I was getting more blog spam than I was getting email spam, so I decided that was enough.

The other day I installed Bad Behavior. It blocks clients before they even start posting and logs exactly what it does to a database. So far it seems to be working quite well.. I just hope nobody gets unnecssarily blocked or anything.

I had the same problem, so I ended up installing a CAPTCHA through a WP plugin--it works great and I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Hi - I highly recommend Spam Karma 2. In my experience it's 100% effective in stopping spam comments to my weblog (I get thousands of attempts a day .. THOUSANDS!). You'll have to upgrade your WP install, though, probably.

Stay away from captchas, people hate them. Another good alternative that I don't use but my friend does with excellent results is Akismet, although you'll need to sign up with wordpress.com to use it .. extra points I guess for being an "official" WP service but like I said, Spam Karma has been brilliant so I haven't thought it necessary to switch.

Thanks for the rails articles, that's why I was here.. keep it up. Absolutely love the framework, love the community, love how programming is fun again .. your site (and everyone else's) are all part of that .. thanks a lot! :-)
