I've always wanted to be able to share files easily between my server and my workstations at home.. FTP/SFTP is fine, but it would be nice to be able to just use windows explorer and make things work just like that.. unfortunately I've had a billion and one problems trying to do so and I just hadn't come up with an easy solution to fix the problem.

Plesk makes things easy.. you'd think it would be easy to do... apparently my ISP blocks the port that samba uses and blah blah blah it's hard to get secure anyway. But anyway.. I had tried it.. had shares and users and everything set up in samba.

I actually tried out Hamachi a long time ago when it was still in its early stages. Didn't work out.. I don't think there was even a linux version of it at the time.. if there was I never even tried it out.

Anyway.. so it's working now. Here's what I did:

Downloaded Hamachi for Windows box
Downloaded Hamachi for Linux box
Installed it on both - no issues
Created a network with a password via Windows
Connected to this network on the linux box
Started Samba
Added my Hamachi "IP" thing to the allowed hosts/netoworks in samba
Went to "\\5.xxx.xxxx.xxxx" in Windows explorer

Easy as hell.
