my hero for today

Monday, March 6th, 2006

I never thought I would see a tax-related bill that I would support so much. It's amazing.
US Representative John Campbell has proposed a permanent ban on internet taxes. The current Internet Tax Freedom Act is set to expire in late 2007. This bill would extend the ban indefinitely.
Unfortunately I don't think [...]

Become a bank! Lending freedom is finally here

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

This is one of the coolest things ive seen on the internet in a long time.. this might even beat out ebay for coolness factor.
I doubt this will last long.. no doubt all the banks in the united states will do everything they can to get it shut down:
prosper.com
Prosper, America's first people-to-people lending marketplace, [...]

Why Oppose City-Wide Wi-Fi?

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Recently many cities have been proposing offering city-wide wireless internet access. As you can guess I am greatly opposed to such ideas. Why?

cost
maintenance
security

monopoly

Cost is an easy one.. It's a government offered service.. Clearly it's going to cost something.. not only that, but it's going to cost more than usual since the governemnt almost [...]

SUVs - The market took care of it

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

SUVs were a creation of the government. Ok not really, but it was government regulation which helped the conception and their birth.
Fuel economy in vehicles is regulated by our government. It's not generally regulated per vehicle, but as an average for all vehicles in a fleet of cars produced by a single vehicle [...]

Why Statists Always Get it Wrong

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

I was just reading an article on Mises that is a response to another article by a libertarian; it's also a good example of how many libertarians put principle and morality before just about anything else. A lot of people really get caught up in not understanding libertarians sometimes or how they come to [...]

Badnarik Quote

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

I remember listening to a speech from Michael Badnarik when they were fighting to get delegate votes and I've been looking for this quote for a long time. I just thought I'd save it here and share it with you all:
Good evening fellow Americans. I’d like to share a quote from George Washington: ‘Government [...]

Common Misconceptions in American Politics

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Most Democrats in office stand up for personal freedom.
Most Republicans in office stand up for economic freedom.
Politicians vote very similarly to what most people would say their party stands for.
People who consider themselves republicans are currently all a bunch of crazy, white, extremely religious hicks and it's always been that way.
People who consider themselves democrats [...]

Regulating the Internet

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

I'm watching C-SPAN right now.. it's a recording of a Senate Commerce Committee hearing from this Thursday about internet regulation. They've mainly been discussing the regulation of spam, spyware, and pornography. I just read a piece on Mises about a department of internet security that was posted on Friday which makes me think [...]

What is the best way to diminish the police presence?

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

I can't tell you how many times I hear the words "fuck the police" and "i hate cops" in a month.. but it's quite a few; a significant enough number that it really does make me believe that people are rather uncomfortable with the police presence in this country - or maybe it's just this [...]

Happy to see some freedom ring

Friday, January 6th, 2006

I know I talk about digg a lot on here.. seems to be the main topic of my log lately.. but it really is a rather interesting community.
Today I was surfing through stories and I found one about legislation that would require movie theaters to tell exactly when the real movie starts so people wouldn't [...]
